Puntland: Ministry of Education, CARE Present EU Funded ERASMUS+ Scholarship Program.

ERASMUS+ is the European program to support education, training, youth and sport. The program has opportunities for a wide range of organizations, including universities, education and training providers, research organizations, and others.

Garowe, December 17, 2019: The event that aimed at  unveiling scholarship opportunities for Puntland Student under the European Union supported ERASMUS+ program was held today December 17, at the Puntland State University – PSU – in Garowe city, the administrative capital of the Puntland State of Somalia.

Organized in collaboration with CARE International, the event was attended by the Puntland’s government officials mainly from the State’s Cabinet Ministers spearheaded by the event’s co-host the Ministry of Education, Officials from the office of the Puntland Presidency, CARE International Staff, Local University Graduates and CSO members.

Speaking at the event, Director General of the Puntland Ministry of Education and Higher Education Mohamed Ali Farah explained his Ministry’s role and efforts it put in bringing this opportunity for the benefit of the Somali Students. He urged eligible candidates to take advantage of what he called this ”golden opportunity”, while also urging successful candidates who make it and acquire a certificate from ERASMUS+ scholarship, are in turn expected to come back and serve their communities.

”If we bring this type of free scholarship opportunities which covers your fees, your flight tickets and accommodation for the entire period of study, this doesn’t mean that at the end you will enjoy the results of the study for your own good, no, you are expected to bring back the knowledge and serve your people” Said Mr. Farah Director General of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

The current program as a whole is expected to last until 2020, Erasmus+ is open to both individuals and organizations, although the eligibility ranges from one action to another and from one country to another.

At PSU held event, a Know-How presentation on eligibility, processes and procedures tailored to inform Somali applicants interested in applying for the Higher education that include Bachelor degrees, Master’s degrees and PHD of the ERASMUS+ scholarship program was presented to the participants.

Puntland Deputy Minister for Education and Higher Education Bashir Jama Mohamed who also gave a key-note speech at the event urged interested participants to take this opportunity serious by applying for the scholarship. Honorable Jama in his encouragement speech also noted that Puntland is the leading Federal Somali state in terms of Education.
