With support from the EU funded education project named ”Waxbarashada Waa Iftiin (Education is Light)” implemented by CARE international and Save the Children, Qarxis district residents will soon get a new Secondary school.
A delegation led by the Puntland’s Minister of Education Honourable Abdullahi Mohamed who visited Qarxis district on Wednesday 23 October 2019 were recieved with a warm welcome by a crowd mixed with Students in uniform and members of the local residents clapping hands while chanting ”soo dhawoow Wasiir” meaning ”welcome Minister” in Somali language.
Speaking the event, Hon Abdulahi Mohamed thanked the implementing partners of this project namely CARE International and Save the children for their continuous yet vital support it has provided to the Puntland society. While urging Qarxis residents to send their children to school, the Minister also gave a brief overview on the project’s planned activities.
I would like to send congrats to the two main implementing organization of this project CARE and SAVE the children who have been the backbone in providing key essential needs to our society, adding, It is expected through this project that up to 12 elementary schools and 4 secondary schools to be built in Puntland’s suburb location, as well 80 elementary and secondary schools will be renovated and equipped, Qarxis is the first location to launch this project” Said Hon. Abdulahi Mohamed.
The Director General of Puntland’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education Mr. Mohamed Ali Farah aka Farmayeeri consolidated the Minister’s speech by mentioning the Puntland Government priorities.
”This year and the upcoming years, a major public policy decision for the Puntland government on service delivery is reaching out to suburb located resident and provide essential services such as health, education, police” Said Director General of the Puntland Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoE&HE) Puntland State of Somalia.
Halima Gurey, a mother among the Qarxis inhabitants welcomed the delegates led the by the Puntland education Minister, in her speech she also thanked the CARE officials for supporting the much needed school construction. Halima finally urged the Hon. Abdulaahi to frequently visit remote locations which will be helpful in observing the needs of the residents.
”Our government Ministers are not known to visit remote areas, although it is your first time to come to our location, i hope you will have more trips frequently to our location in the future and continue supporting our population” Said Qarxis resident Halimo Gurey
The Waxbarashadu Waa Iftiin III (Education Is Light III) project is a 3 year EU funded initiative being implemented by a consortium comprising of CARE international (lead agency) and Save the Children in close coordination, support and guidance of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoE&HE) of the Puntland State of Somalia.
